Wireless mains voltage counter.

Wireless Mains Voltage Counter
Circuit

As the name denotes, the circuit is used to count or measure the Mains Voltage without having any physical contact.
The circuit doesn't include any critical or expensive electronic components.

It is a simple but effective circuit to do, without any caution.

In my previous article, we were discussed about "Wireless mains voltage Detector".
Which is much similar to this one.

Having the difference of Cascading 3 CD4033 ICs.

In that circuit, which is used only for voltage indication purposes. We were using a single bit of 7 segment display. So we are only able to count one (lsb) digit.
Which is running too fast, so we cant recognise the digit.
Inorder to overcome these difficulties, we have to design the cascaded version of that ic.
Circuit diagram shown below.

voltage counter circuit

This includes three 7 segment display to count 3 digits (upto 999),cd4033 ic's to drive the display And 9 volt battery.

An antenna/strobe connected to the pin1 of first ic, is used to sense the electromagnetic radiation, ejected by AC power lines.

The pin 5 (carry out) of first ic is connected to clock input (pin 1) of second IC. Which will goes high only after counting the first display (lsb) to 9.
While applying an input clock to the second ic it starts counting from 0 to 9.
And the process continues.

Interfacing CD4033 IC with 7 Segment display and pin configuration

Note:
1. Don't forget to ground the pin 3 of seven segment display if it is common cathode display.
2. Donot make this circuit any physical or direct contact with AC power lines.

 1. can i use cd 4026 ic for the same circuit?.....and if yes...what changes do i have to make?

 2. How will it measure the value of the AC magnitude, example if it's 220V, 250V, 120V etc.
